Oceania is an incredible explosion of island nations, overseas territories, countless archipelagos. In all, there are more than 10,000 islands spread out over about 8.5 million square kilometers of the central and south Pacific Ocean! Obviously, most of these places are virtually unknown to many of us, most are uninhabited — but, fun would it be to go to some of these places where few others have gone? The four major regions of Oceania are Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, and Australia / New Zealand. All of these amazing destinations have something to offer travelers looking for sun-drenched beaches, thrilling adventures, bountiful nature and truly unique cultures that are both distinct in some ways and quite similar in others.
Many of the world’s least travelled destinations also happen to be in Oceania and if getting off the beaten path is your thing, look no further and go soon—the accessibility here is getting better all the time and places once largely considered out of reach are becoming more frequent onto the intrepid traveler’s radar.
