Travel To Austria On Your Next Vacation

Austria truly has it all. If history and architecture is your thing, you will find no shortage of impressive modern or imperial baroque examples a myriad of medieval castles, posh palaces, and one amazing museum after another.

Of course, Austria is the birthplace of Mozart. His music, along with other many other classical greats, is so much a part of the culture and no trip would be complete without experiencing this music at one of the cultural events held throughout Austria. Tradition blends nicely with this modern society and the culinary delights of the country are alone worth traveling a few thousand miles. World-renowned skiing, lovely Christmas markets, pure mountain air, and friendly people are just a few really great reasons to consider Austria for your next vacation.

Austria's Destination Highlights

Austria’s capital alongside on the Danube River is the vibrant cultural and historical center of this beautiful country. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by the likes of Mozart, Beethoven, and Freud. No visit should go without seeing Schönbrunn Palace, the Habsburgs’ summer residence with around 2600 rooms.

Equally worthwhile is the Museums quartier district with its historical and contemporary buildings where you will find such works as Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" at the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

The Österreichische Nationalbibliothek is the national library of Austria. A stunning example of Baroque architecture and an interior that is is quite impressive with its soaring bookshelves and decorated ceilings.

The Semmering Railway

Take a scenic train ride from Gloggnitz to Mürzzuschlag on this UNESCO World Heritage Site that is considered to be the first high altitude rail and an engineering marvel.

The  capital of Austria’s western state of Tyrol. This is a lovely city in the Alps that is world-renowned for winter sports and has its fair share of both Imperial and modern architecture.

Altstadt Salzburg means the old city and it is one of Europe’s most beautiful. Bordering Germany along the River Salzach this is a great place to walk around and take in the sites. See Hohensalzburg Castle, a 20 minute walk from the old town center or go via a funicular railway from Festungsgasse and enjoy the incredible views.

Take the train for an extremely scenic journey to this UNESCO World Heritage site. Stunningly beautiful and an idyllic small town not too far south of Salzburg.

Tarrenz is a lovely place where you can have a nice jacuzzi in the 700 year old Starkenberger Castle. One of the only places in the world where you can have your beer and bathe in too. Yes, that's right, a beer jacuzzi.

Grüner See means Green Lake and it is in the Hochschwab mountains of Styria, near the village of Tragöess. This is a beautiful green lake that performs an annual magic act. It's a park that by mid-June comes to be under about 26 feet of water after the ice melts down and floods it until winter comes again to expose the benches, trees and trails and becomes a park again.

Stay at Aqua Dome Spa and Hotel in Langenfeld. A certified Tyrolean mineral spa and futuristic pools await for those instagram worthy photos.

Amazing Travel Experiences in Austria

The Best Times To Visit Austria

The busiest season in Austria is June through August when the weather is on its most predictable behavior.

To take advantage of fewer tourists, the best time to go is during the shoulder seasons of April and May and then in September through October. The weather can be excellent for nature activities outdoors and you will bump into far less people.

Now, if you love dancing, then the winter-season just might be the time for you. Ball season starts toward the end of November and there will be over 400 balls in Vienna alone by the end of March. If classical music is on the agenda, then Mozart week falls at the end of January.
